When to buy a new mac

My macbook was acting up, but I fixed it. Still, it's sending me warnings.

I think, all things being equal, I'd like to plan for an iPad GPS for portable and an iMac for home, but it's been a while since the iMacs have been upgraded, so hopefully the trusty macbook will hang on for about half a year.
