What will a good pilot look like?

What will a good pilot look like? What am I, as CFI, hoping to instill?

A good pilot uses procedural & mental tools to process information well, especially
* numbers and arithmetic
* spatial awareness
* perception and evaluation
to be alert and responsive to challenging situations and to avoid danger.

A good pilot demonstrates patterns of competence in
* airplane control
* navigation
* maneuvers and
* aviation procedures
to be dependable and effective in flight.

A good pilot is gaining experience and knowledge of
* mechanical processes
* safety and emergency issues
* situational awareness
* weather & environment
to safely exercise the privileges of pilot-in-command.

A good pilot is able to assess, learn, perform, and evaluate with
* fellow aviators
* employers
* passengers
* ATC and
* FAA
in effective ways.

A good pilot will continue the aviation experience in pursuit of
* career
* avocation
* pleasure and
* fulfillment
when leaving my instruction.
