Dom Pothier on how people mistakenly sing Gregorian Chant
from my notes, c. 2005,:
--Introduction to the Restoration of Gregorian Chant, xii
The misunderstanding and its monotonous style of singing still reigns in our chant culture, such as it is.
In 1880, Dom Pothier wrote, "It must be said, in our era, especially since the sixteenth century, the liturgical melodies are no longer what they used to be. They are neither understood, nor enjoyed in the way our forefathers enjoyed them, nor are they interpreted in practice as our forefathers interpreted them. We have arrived at a heavy and monotonous style of performance, one that deprives the chant of all rhythm and color, that destroys the charm--how shall I say it?--the very essence of the melody. For sounds that follow one another uniformly, like the syllables of a child spelling his lesson, are no more a chant than the child's syllables are a reading."
--Les Mélodies Grégoriennes, Tournai, 1880

Lesson Plan: Jr. Aerospace Day Bowman Field March13
If I were to pilot an airplane, I could help with medical flight.
Taking someone to a hospital, any time of day or night.
If I were to pilot an airplane, I could help to bring relief,
Food and water to people who need it, shelter and hope to move through grief.
If I were to pilot an airplane, I could take you to the heights,
Teach you the skill and test your limits, breathtaking view and wonderful sights.
If I were to pilot an airplane, I could help to study the earth,
A bird’s-eye view to count and locate, using the sky for all it’s worth.
If I were to pilot a glider, lift and thermals I would seek,
Silently soaring, skimming and touring, in an atmosphere so unique.
If I were to build an airplane, I’d be part of an interesting team.
Wood and fabric, friends and family, working toward our mutual dream.
If I were to pilot an airplane, I could work to check the lines,
energy flowing to all the world, breaks and leaks we’d have to find.
If I were to pilot an airplane, when a question has to be asked,
for technical skill or personal contact, people need to get there fast.
If I were to pilot an airplane, farming has a need for me.
Crops need seeding, dusting and spraying. Aircraft do it wonderfully.
If I were to pilot an airplane, I might go the airlines route,
Across the world, in safety and comfort, so many people traveling about.
If I were to pilot an airplane, I could carry without delay
Bundles and boxes, parcels and crates. Anything gets there in only a day.

Standiford stop & go's. SDF night landings. Friday and Saturdays are good. Weeknights are not ( UPS).

good. Weeknights are not ( UPS).
Tell Bowman ground you'll be VFR to Standiford. They give you a squawk
code and vector. "maintain VFR at or below2500, initial course 340,
tower frequency 124.2, squawk 1234." then they have you switch to SDF
tower.
You don't have to follow the runway all the way to the end. Fly to
1200 ft, then turn crosswind.
So many lights, but the runway lights don't show up from the side.
Watch heading indicator. I had to really look to spot the beacon and
the Watterson expressway in order to figure where to turn base for 17R.

Maggie
